Your SLCA Board of Directors wishes to share the following information and updates on Silver Lake with you.

Silver Lake Annual Inspection

Our annual inspection was completed by our engineer in December. It included minor repairs that needed addressed. We also received confirmation from DEP that our inspection was received and approved. It requested we complete the recommendations from the inspection.

We will address these recommendations at our upcoming work parties. The cost of the inspection was $1561.25 and the fee for the DEP was $1500.

Annual Maintenance Fees

Please be advised that if your property is on the water these fees are not optional. You are required by law to pay them. If you do not live directly on the water, the Association is asking for a copy of your deed to determine if you are responsible to pay these fees. If you are disputing being a member you will continue to be billed until we receive this information.

Please keep in mind that if we don’t collect the monies needed to repair the Earthen Dam there will be no Silver Lake. We don’t think anyone wants that to happen. Also, if we have to drain the lake because we don’t have the money to rebuild the dam, your property values will decrease significantly. DEP will require a $30,000 bond to pay for breaching the dam and each person whose property touches the water will be billed an even portion of that $30,000 by the Pennsylvania State Department of Environmental Protection. We need everyone on or around the Lake to help support the undertaking of reinforcing the earthen dam. The estimated cost just for the reinforcing of the dam is in excess of $150,000. We are also required by DEP to have a wetlands delineation study performed by a licensed Pennsylvania engineering firm, which could cost thousands of extra dollars.

We need you all to help save Silver Lake for everyone’s use in the future.

Community Work Parties

We had many work parties in 2015 due to all the work required by the DEP. We have had great support from the community. Thank you to everyone that has volunteered! Keep in mind there is much more work that needs done and we need your continuing support.

The upcoming SLCA Community Work Party will be April 16th from 8am till noon. We will be working on the minor recommendations listed in our annual inspection by our engineer and the DEP. Again we need all your support. In the past we have the same few people that attend these work parties. We can’t do it alone. We need your help. More information will follow.

SLCA Annual Meeting 2016
