Final update of 2022:

As the year comes to a close and we look to 2023, we will soon be commencing into the next stages of our project. Our engineering firm KPI anticipates the final draft of our Hydrologic & Hydraulic (H&H) study (which now includes both upstream and downstream water flow information) will be submitted to DEP in the first week of January.

With the completion of this effort, KPI will be free to begin work on the next steps of sizing our spillway, and structural evaluations of the earthen dam and spillway. Initial meetings regarding these steps between KPI, SLCA and outside engineering consultants are likely to begin in the first couple months of 2023.

This will bring the project scope into greater focus as we will be able to work through many of the details that have been questioned for so long now-

Can we simply modify our existing spillway? Or are large scale changes needed?
Can the earthen dam simply be backfilled at a 3:1 taper? Or is complete removal & replacement required?
Can we bring the lake level back to normal before completion of the diversion dam repairs?

The engineering and analysis to be performed will answer these and many other questions pertinent to the scope, scale & cost of the overall project.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and patience up to this point- hydrology studies and DEP reviews are tedious but necessary… However, we’re certainly all anxious to proceed to the next phase.

So- here’s to looking forward to 2023 being a year of progress, answers, and good fortune!

We also want to let you know that the Annual inspection has been completed with only some minor repairs suggested to the spillway. More info to follow.
