The Great White Egret is listed as endangered by Pennsylvania. How fortunate are we at Silver Lake to be able to observe these beautiful birds on a regular basis around our lake?

According to the Pennsylvania fact sheet, York County and Dauphin County are the primary breeding areas for the Great White Egret in Pennsylvania.

The report states that “Today, the main threat faced by the great egret are habitat loss…, water pollution and disturbance of nesting colonies.”

Our resident photographer Ken Boyer caught the beauty of the Great White Egret on a beautiful July day in 2014 and graciously shares his work with you! Enjoy.

A special thank you to Silver Lake resident Ken Boyer for sharing his photography with us. Ken sells his work – if you are interested in prints you can email him.
